Arknights: Endfield hides two kinds of collectible that do not appear on the map until you go looking for them: Aurylene, the crystal you hand in for rewards, and the sealed storage crates that hold loot. Finding them comes down to two things. First you chart enough of an area to clear its fog, then you spend one of the five exploration tools to ping whatever is still buried nearby.

These tools are easy to mix up, because the names sound interchangeable and each one only works in one region. This guide lists all five, says what each actually reveals, and covers where the materials they unearth get handed in.

Everything below comes from our item database and the official update notes. Where the data stops short, we say so rather than fill the gap.

The five exploration tools

Our database files five items under the Detector category. All five are 5-star consumables, and each is locked to a single region.

Keen Valley DetectorValley IVStorage crate5
Keen Wuling CompassWulingAurylene5
Keen Wuling DetectorWulingStorage crate5
Wuling Talosite ProbeWulingTalosite5

Two of them, the Compasses, reveal Aurylene. Two, the Detectors, reveal storage crates. The fifth is Wuling-only and is the only tool that finds Talosite.

The gate: chart the fog before the tool will fire

All five descriptions carry the same condition word for word: usable only once every fogged place of the map has been charted. A detector is not a way to get ahead of your exploration. It only works on ground you have already walked, which is why players who buy one early and use it in the wrong spot see nothing happen.

The official Map Tools notes from the [Dreamscape of Wind and Snow] version point the same direction. They describe a route feature that “helps you collect Aurylenes, storage crates, and resources in one go”, which is the same loop of clearing ground and then collecting what it was hiding.

What each tool reveals

  • Keen Valley Compass and Keen Wuling Compass reveal an undiscovered Aurylene somewhere in the current area.
  • Keen Valley Detector and Keen Wuling Detector reveal an undiscovered storage crate.
  • Wuling Talosite Probe reveals an undiscovered Talosite. It has no Valley IV counterpart.

Storage crates are their own topic; for what is inside them and how they differ by type, see our crates and selection boxes guide.

Aurylene: hand it in at any TP Point

Aurylene is the reward currency of exploration. Our database splits it by region, and both entries say the same thing about where they go.

The “Regional Aurylene Submission Phase” is also one of the map marker categories that unlock as you progress, so the submission points are not hidden once you reach the right part of the story. In March 2026 the developers fixed a display bug where submission progress read wrong after you went past the Wuling limit; the note is worth knowing because it confirms the two regions track their own totals.

Talosite and the Talosite Exchange

Talosite is Wuling-only and works differently from Aurylene. The [Homecoming] update notes introduced it plainly: you gather Talosites in [Wuling - Yinglung Pass] and [Wuling - North Wuling Exclusion Zone], then exchange them at the [Talosite Exchange] for rewards such as Gear Templates, Ornamentals, Camera Poses and Vinyls. The [Dreamscape of Wind and Snow] version widened that stock, adding Personal Devices and other items.

Our item data agrees on the hand-in point. The single Talosite entry says to submit enough of them at the Talosite Exchange for rewards. What it does not record is the exchange rate, so treat the in-game counter as the source of truth for how many you still need.

Other exploration materials

A few more items sit in the same collecting loop. Two of them, the Æther Manifest and its Shard, carry no description at all in our records, so we list them without guessing at their use.

How you get the tools

They are bought, not built. The Beta Test II notes added exploration assists with the line that you can now purchase Detectors and Compasses, and describe them as tools that reveal hidden storage crates or Aurylenes within a certain range. Our database holds no crafting formula for any of the five, which fits a shop purchase rather than an AIC production line.

The Aurylene Crystal named above comes out of the Valley’s Aberrants rather than the open map; how those zones and their commissions work is in our Etchspace Salvage guide. TP Points and the shops tied to exploration progress are covered in the Regional Development guide, and the storage crates the Detectors find are broken down in the crates guide. You can browse the full item list at /items/.

What our data does not cover

  • No reward tables and no hand-in thresholds for Aurylene or Talosite.
  • No purchase price or vendor for the five tools.
  • No fog-charting percentage, and no reveal radius for any of the tools.
  • No description for the Æther Manifest or its Shard, and no current stock list for the Talosite Exchange.

Frequently asked

Do I need to finish exploring before using a Detector? Yes. Every tool only works after all fogged places of the map have been charted, so use it in an area you have already walked.

Can I use a Keen Valley Compass in Wuling? No. Each tool is locked to one region, and the description says so explicitly.

What is the difference between a Compass and a Detector? A Compass finds Aurylene. A Detector finds a storage crate.

Which tool finds Talosite? Only the Wuling Talosite Probe. There is no Valley IV equivalent.

Can I craft the tools? The official notes say they are purchased, and our data holds no formula for any of them.
