Weapon essences are the Arknights: Endfield upgrade material that never shows up on the map. You do not craft them, and the game gives you almost nothing to go on when you are hunting for the right one.
The trouble is that almost every essence carries the same one-line description, and our database holds 195 of them. The names and ids are the only real tell. An essence carries up to three stats, and a "perfect" essence is one whose stats line up with every skill on the weapon you are upgrading. This guide covers the tiers, the named Flawless Essences, which weapons have dedicated essences, and the official systems that make matching less painful.
What a weapon essence does
The description is identical on all of them: infuse the essence into a weapon to improve its skill level. Infusing consumes the essence and raises the weapon's skill level, which is its own track, separate from the weapon's level and from its potential.
The part players miss is that essences are not generic stat sticks. An essence holds up to three stats, and those stats have to line up with the weapon's skills to be useful. The official notes describe the menu sorting essences "in order of their number of weapon adaptation stats", and call an essence that matches all three skills of a weapon a Perfect Match. Match count is what decides whether an essence is worth infusing.
The five essence tiers
Essences come in five rarity tiers. Our database lists one canonical item for each, repeated across the preset and rarity id families:
| Essence | Tier |
|---|---|
| Turbid Essence | 1★ |
| Stable Essence | 2★ |
| Clean Essence | 3★ |
| Pure Essence | 4★ |
| Flawless Essence | 5★ |
One data quirk worth knowing: the Clean Essence exists twice, as a 3-star rarity entry and as a 4-star preset entry. The tier table shows the rarity-family value.
The named Flawless Essences
On top of the plain tiers, the database holds fourteen Flawless Essences that carry a role name. They read like pre-built essences aimed at a type of weapon skill, which is why they get names instead of the generic Flawless Essence label.
| Role | Full item name |
|---|---|
| Brutality | Flawless Essence: Brutality |
| Detonate | Flawless Essence: Detonate |
| Pursuit | Flawless Essence: Pursuit |
| Fracture | Flawless Essence: Fracture |
| Assault | Flawless Essence: Assault |
| Medicant | Flawless Essence: Medicant |
| Efficacy | Flawless Essence: Efficacy |
| Infliction | Flawless Essence: Infliction |
| Combative | Flawless Essence: Combative |
| Crusher | Flawless Essence: Crusher |
| Inspiring | Flawless Essence: Inspiring |
| Flow | Flawless Essence: Flow |
| Suppression | Flawless Essence: Suppression |
| Twilight | Flawless Essence: Twilight |
Every weapon has its own essence
Essences are keyed to individual weapons, not just weapon types. Our database stores them as gem_<family>_<number>, and that number lines up with a weapon's own id, wpn_<family>_<number>. Under that link, 77 weapons have a dedicated pair of essences across the five families:
| Weapon family | Weapons with essences | Variants each |
|---|---|---|
| Sword | 20 | 2 each |
| Arts Unit | 18 | 2 each |
| Greatsword | 14 | 2 each |
| Polearm | 13 | 2 each |
| Handcannon | 12 | 2 each |
A small detail backs the link up. The essence code is as long as the weapon has skills. The five starting three-star weapons (Tarr 11, Jiminy 12, Darhoff 7, Peco 5 and Opero 77) carry two-skill kits, and their essence codes are two digits; every other weapon has three skills and a three-digit code. We treat the weapon-to-essence link as data we derived from item ids, not something the game spells out.
Six weapons have no skill data in our files: the five newest six-stars plus one unnamed lance entry. Their rows show an essence exists but no skill count.
The Essence Wishlist and Perfect Match
Matching essences by hand is what the Wishlist exists to fix. It arrived in the Sketches of Lost Heirlooms update and unlocks at Exploration Level 4. You open it from the Severe Energy Alluvium challenge screen or from Valuables Stash, then select the weapons you are working on.
Once a weapon is on the list, the game watches for a Flawless Essence that matches its skills across all three stats. When one turns up, whether you just obtained it or already had it in the stash, it is locked automatically and flagged as a Perfect Match so you do not dissolve it by mistake.
The feature was extended again later: for upcoming operators you can preview the perfect-match essences for their recommended weapons and add them to the Wishlist straight from there.
Etching, infusing and the sorting changes
Infusing an essence and etching one are two different actions, and the official notes ended up tuning how both menus sort. After the change, the infusing menu orders essences by how many weapon adaptation stats they carry, so the best matches float to the top. The etching menu was reordered the other way around: essences marked Abandoned show first, while equipped and locked essences are pushed to the back so you cannot etch them by accident.
The same update also added a shortcut from the Weapon Potential and Essence screens to a weapon's skill details, which matters because you need the skill list in front of you to judge a match.
The Valley Multi-Line Engraving Kit
One item skips the matching game entirely. The Valley Multi-Line Engraving Kit grants "an essence with three customized stats", which means you choose the stats rather than hoping a drop lines up.
It is not a drop. It is a staple good in the Stock Redistribution store, and it only appears once you have upgraded the Stock Redistribution terminal in Valley IV - Origin Lodespring to Level 4. After that you buy it with Valley Stock Bills. The same version notes said Engraving Kits were planned for the Wuling region's Stock Redistribution system as well, so treat the Valley one as the confirmed source and Wuling as announced-but-not-yet-listed.
Where the official notes point
Our files do not carry a per-essence source, so this is the list the version notes actually name rather than a full drop table.
- The Severe Energy Alluvium challenge screen, where the notes say you can open the Wishlist to track the essences you want.
- Monumental Etching limited-time challenges, run alongside Umbral Monument events such as Beastly Howl and Corrupting Surge.
- The Essence Wishlist, which does not hand out essences but makes sure the ones you do get are the ones you wanted.
- The Valley Multi-Line Engraving Kit, for a guaranteed three-stat essence.
What our data does not cover
- No stat values on any essence. Every essence shares one description line, and our files carry no numbers, so we cannot tell you how much a tier adds.
- No drop rates, no per-essence source, and no currency cost for the Engraving Kit beyond the Stock Bill requirement.
- The numeric codes on each essence are not explained anywhere in our data. We can show that the code length tracks a weapon's skill count, but not what the individual digits mean.
- Six weapons are missing their skill lists in our files, and one lance essence points at a weapon with no name in our database.
Frequently asked
Are essences shared between weapons? Only by family and skill match. Each weapon has its own dedicated essence pair in our data, and an essence is only worth infusing when its stats match the weapon's skills.
What is a Perfect Match? An essence whose stats match every skill on the target weapon. The Wishlist locks those automatically.
How do I unlock the Essence Wishlist? It opens at Exploration Level 4, and you reach it from the Severe Energy Alluvium challenge screen or Valuables Stash.
How do I get an essence with stats I choose? Buy the Valley Multi-Line Engraving Kit in Valley IV - Origin Lodespring once that Stock Redistribution terminal is Level 4.
Can I choose essence stats without the kit? Not according to our data. Every essence is a fixed item, so until an Engraving Kit source is confirmed for Wuling, the Valley kit is the only custom-stat route.
